After graduating Phi Beta Kappa from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, Dr Ennis earned his medical degree from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed residencies and is board certified in General Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Family Medicine with a Certificate of added qualification in Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine. He subsequently received an MBA from the Keller Graduate School of Management in Chicago and a Masters in Medical Management (MMM) from the Marshall School of Business at USC. He is a certified physician executive (CPE) through the American Association of Physician Leadership. Currently, he holds the title of the Catherine and Francis Professor of Wound Healing and Tissue Repair at the University of Illinois Chicago where he heads the wound care program for the department of surgery. He founded and is director of the first Wound Healing and Tissue Repair Fellowship in the United States, also at UIC. Dr. Ennis is a founding board member and President of the American College of Wound Healing and Tissue Repair, a 501c3 non-profit educational organization that has a mission of bringing wound care to the level of a formal medical specialty. For the past 5 years, Dr. Ennis also serves as the Chief Medical Officer for Healogics, a private wound care company based in Jacksonville, Fla.Dr. Ennis has published over 130 articles, chapters and abstracts and has lectured throughout the US and world. Current research interests include predictive analytics, unwarranted clinical variability, microcirculation and health economics. Interests include guitar and participating in triathlons.
